Do I need council approval?

Most councils see these as transportable buildings or even a caravan, and not traditional buildings as they can be packed up and moved at will.

NSW and VIC have passed legislation allowing a transportable building to be placed without council’s approval.

Then there are many councils that allow for a transportable building as long as it is 80m² or less to be placed on land near another house without council approval.

Rural land owners, it is your decision to place a Tiny Home on your land, and yours to decide if you want to get council involved.

States other than Victoria or NSW do not need council approval for a caravan to be on your own land. Councils can apply a limit of time you can occupy a caravan and time limit varies from council to council.

When dealing with council it is easier to use term caravan or relocatable building.
