    • Granny Flat Purchasing Process

      After the initial enquiry, a site inspection will be undertaken to document setbacks from side and back boundaries, easements, size of the property, trees etc, so we can advise whether everything is suitable to begin the Building Permit Process. It is at this stage that final pricing will be determined. Once pricing is agreed, Aarons will provide a Building Contract for the building component of your Granny Flat, and an Aarons ‘preferred’ builder (or your own builder) will provide a second building contract for the fit out. Both ‘builders’ will be listed on the Building Permit, which will explain the stages that each builder is responsible for.

      A Building Permit ensures that the building of your Granny Flat meets Australian standards and building specifications, and is a minimum requirement. But your local council may require you to also have a Planning Permit. This will be determined at the Building Permit stage. Everybody requires a Building Permit, but not everybody needs a Planning Permit. The time required to gain a Permit is varying.

        What is the difference between an Aarons Workshop and an Aarons Granny Flat?
        An Aarons Workshop has been engineered to meet tough council guidelines and is permissible as a Class 10a (Shed) structure.  Our Granny Flats are the same as our Workshops, but with electrical, plaster, wall and ceiling insulation as standard. A Granny Flat requires a Class 1A permit (Habitable Dwelling).

        Are Granny Flats Insulated?
        Yes.  We use sisolation paper insulate on the inside of our walls and ceiling to help regulate moisture, reduce summer heat and winter cold.  Granny Flats also include full insulation to floor, walls and ceiling.

        My property is unlevel, does that matter?
        The posts are supplied at 600mm and are able to accommodate a fall of up to 400mm.  However we can provide posts to the extreme length of 2450mm to accommodate any amount of fall.
