If you’ve invested in your own workshop, then you want to be able to enjoy it for as long as possible. It may look and feel sturdy, but without a proper clean, dirt and debris can get trapped in the timber making it look stained and can even cause rot.
It is imperative that you do a regular deep clean to preserve the life of your workshop. Our guide will help you do just that.
Why do I need to do deep clean my workshop?
At Aarons, we only use the best materials possible in constructing your workshop. They are strong, durable, and built-to-last. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t susceptible to wear and tear.
Harsh weather conditions, including being in the Australian sun daily will have its effect. Your Workshop can even grow algae and fungi if the conditions are right.
To prevent this and preserve the life of your wood workshop, be sure to give it a regular deep clean.

Find the right solution
…Cleaning solution that is!
Using a wood cleaning solution will help get off dirt and grime and protect the wood thereafter too. It is not so harsh that it will scour down the wood, but it will get deep into the crevices and give a really good clean.
Do not use regular soap as it can damage the wood. Here are some wood cleaning products on the market that work:
- Enrich Timber Cleaner – This easy-to-apply product is the perfect cleaner to use before applying any top coat to your wood surface. It washes up well with water, so lather it on and easily wash it away before letting it dry leaving you with the perfect surface ready for a finish.
- Intergrain Reviva Gel Vertical Surface Cleaner – The no-drop formula from Intergrain really makes the difference when tackling vertical wooden surfaces! It packs a powerful punch when cleaning your workshop. If you have left it a while between cleaning, you will really see the difference after using the Reviva gel. Plus, it has citrus acid in it which not only helps clean, but you are not left with a pungent odour as well.
- Karcher Wood High-Pressure Cleaner – Use this solution with your pressure washer if you have one. It is a convenient 3-in-1 cleaner that does all your cleaning, care and protection. It will dissolve dirt as well as add a layer of UV protection. You only need to give it a few minutes to penetrate the surfaces before using your pressure washer to wash it away, leaving you with a clean and protected workshop.
- Sikkens 1L Cetol BL Deck and Wood Cleaner – This is another gel that will make worn wood look revitalised. Because it is in a gel form, it makes it perfect for vertical surfaces. You just brush it on and leave it to do its thing before washing it away. This leaves your surfaces clean and ready for a finishing coat.
Not all cleaning solutions are created the same! It is important that you read the directions carefully before using, so you do not do any harm to your surfaces.
How to clean your wood workshop
Remove any furniture that might be nearby or on a veranda. Use a soft brush to dust away any loose dirt and debris. Apply the solution as instructed. Wash away with a pressure washer or hose. Let it dry completely before moving back any furniture. It is best to do this on warm, dry days if possible.
